Porur case: Man murder’s wife, children

CHENNAI: The death of a woman and her two children, who were found burnt, at their house in suburban Porur on Monday, is a case of murder, according to the police.

The post-mortem reports of the three bodies showed that Geetha (32) and her children Ragav (10) and Renu (4) were allegedly smothered leading to their death, Joint Commissioner of Police (Central zone) P. Balasubramanian told The Hindu.< /em>

When the investigation officer made enquiries with Somasundaram alias Raju (40), husband of Geetha, he confessed to having committed the crime.

Somasundaram, who suffered burns, is at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where he was admitted for treatment on Monday.

Based on his confession, the police came to know that Somasundaram had obtained loans from a few people, including some relatives. His wife had objected to that and there was a wordy altercation between the couple on Sunday night.

In an inebriated condition, Somasundaram had at first allegedly planned to commit suicide, but later, decided to kill his wife and children and then end his life. With the help of a pillow, he smothered and strangulated them to death one after the other.

At around 4.30 a.m., he had brought the LPG cylinder from the kitchen to the bedroom and after opening the valve lit a match resulting in the explosion, the police said. He suffered burns in the accident, he confessed, police said.

A case of murder was registered against Somasundaram. Further investigation is on.
