BHUBANESWAR: A minor was raped allegedly by her uncle in an inebriated condition at Salia Sahi slum here recently. The accused person P. Param Rao, 19, was arrested by personnel of the Mahila police station on Monday night from the area. Rao, who allegedly used to indulge in petty thefts, confessed to the crime, said Bilasini Nayak, Inspector-in-Charge of the police station. The police produced the accused person in the court of the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Arun Kumar Sahu on Tuesday. He was remanded in judicial custody. Rao was booked under Article 377 of the IPC. After being deserted by her husband, the girl’s mother had been staying in a jhugi at Salia Sahi. During August first week, when their hut collapsed following rain, the mother and the child were invited to join them by Rao’s family. On August 11, when everybody was away on some work, Rao allegedly indulged in the unnatural act, preliminary investigations revealed.
