CHENNAI: The Chennai Collectorate has advised public to collect their certificates for caste, income, residence, permanent residence, legal heir and solvency from the tahsildars concerned. The public has been requested to directly petition the tahsildars for these certificates. The Chief Deputy Tahsildar, Zonal Deputy Tahsildar, and Special Deputy Tahsildar (Certificates) are empowered to issue certificates for Backward Castes, Most Backward Castes and Denotified Tribes. The Revenue Tahsildar is empowered to grant certificates for Other Backward Caste and Adi Dravidar communities and certificates for income, residence, permanent residence, legal heir and property. The certificates for Scheduled Tribes can be granted by the Collector’s Personal Assistant (General). Certificates cannot be issued by other officials in tahsildar offices or the Collectorate, according to a release. The Collectorate has issued this warning following the seizure of fake certificates at the Purasawalkam-Perambur office.
