Bhu-Adhyadesh Virodh Samiti seeks repeal of the new land law Public is happy that the land prices have been checked: B.C. Khanduri
DEHRA DUN: A “Dehra Dun bandh” call issued by the Bhu- Adhyadesh Virodh Samiti comprising real estate agents and builders evoked a mixed response in the city over the weekend.
Private schools remained closed while markets in the central area opened up by late afternoon. Public transport was off the roads and groups of youths could be seen going round the city requesting shopkeepers to down the shutters. Government educational institutions, offices and banks operated as usual.
No untoward incident was reported as per the last reports.
The Samiti is seeking immediate repeal of the new land law introduced by the Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri Government as it was framed without consultation with the concerned groups or a proper debate in the Vidhan Sabha. Although the Samiti leaders and some Congressmen describe it as a “black law”, the Chief Minister cites the lowering of land prices ever since the law was introduced and his Government initiated action against unscrupulous land and building dealers as a big achievement in the interests of the State.
“The land law may be opposed by a handful of persons but the public in general is happy that land prices have been checked”, says Mr. Khanduri.
