Bopanna and Qureshi pair in quarterfinals

NEW DELHI: Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan continued their good run to enter the quarterfinals of the $50,000 Challenger tennis tournament at Bronx, New York.

The Indo-Pak duo defeated Denis Gremelmayr of Germany and Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 in the first round, to set up a last-eight match against David Guez and Nicolas Tourte of France.

In the $35,000 Challenger at Bukhara, Uzbekistan, Karan Rastogi went down 4-6, 2-6 to the former Asian champion and fifth seed Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round.

In the $15,000 Futures tennis tournament at Moscow, Aditya Madkekar struggled to cope with the tough conditions on clay.

Madkekar lost the singles first round to qualifier Evgeny Donskoy of Russia 2-6, 1-6.

In the doubles, he and Alexei Filenkov of Russia lost 4-6, 3-6 to Ervand Gasparyan and Andemir Karanashev of Russia in the pre-quarterfinals.
