Grand win

The editorial ‘India trumps England’ (Aug. 14) has rightly applauded Team India for beating England in England in the Test series. The victory can be attributed to cohesiveness and team spirit coupled with the will to succeed exhibited by the players. Team India however should not rest on its laurels but look to scaling greater heights of glory.

Suresh Kumar,

Key factors

Two factors helped Team India’s convincing victory. The team resilience for one and then the ideal mix of experience and youth, talent and grit, aggression and caution. Dravid’s bold decision to bank on Dinesh Karthik as an opener also mattered.

Vengarai S. Raman,

Thanjavur

Misplaced

Criticism about Dravid’s decision not to enforce the follow on is misplaced. As pointed out by him, it is easy to speak from our drawing rooms. He should know about the team better. What is important is that the team played like a unit and the series win, coming on the eve of our 60th Independence Day and on the occasion of the 75th year of Test cricket made it all the more significant.

Sachin denied

In the Trent Bridge Test, Sachin Tendulkar became a victim of bad umpiring that denied him a Test hundred.

It is high time that decisions on lbw, edges to wicketkeeper as also bat-pad catches are referred to the third umpire.

Right choice

The selectors did the right thing in nominating M.S. Dhoni to lead Team India for the Twenty20 World Championship. Here is a sharp cricketer who has shown his prowess with the bat and gloves.
