Good response for Bertram tournaments

Chennai: Around 1600 players from 15 schools and 55 colleges will take part in the 75th Bertram memorial tournaments — which is into its platinum jubilee year — to be held at the Loyola College from August 16 to 31.

Fr. Albert Muthumalai, Principal, Loyola College, spoke of the gradual growth of the tournament and how with each passing year more games were introduced, at a press conference here on Monday.

Of the eight disciplines, entries in tennis have considerably decreased over the years. Loyola College has expressed its concern to the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, which has promised to look into the matter. “Hopefully by next year the players will be able to garner AITA points from the tournament,” said S. Vijayakumar, Director of Physical Education, Loyola College.

Many people will be honoured and awards will be given away on the final day. “Teams which have done well and have been regulars here will be honoured,” informed Fr. Lawrence Amalraj, President, Games Committee.
