Prakash and Yamini clinch titles

Udhagamandalam: C. Prakash (OS) and Yamini S. Vivek (GSIS) scored hard-fought wins to emerge the men’s and women’s champion of the Nilgiris district badminton championship at the Anna Stadium here on Sunday.

In the singles final, Prakash struggled a bit before overcoming M. Manjunath (OS) 24-22, 21-19. He later paired with Manjunath to oust Rajasekar and Shibu combo 21-6, 18-21, 21-16 for the doubles title. Yamini dispatched G. Dhanalakshmi (PC) 21-18, 21-19 for the women’s singles title.

Sir Robert Stanes wins thriller

Sir Robert Stanes Memorial Club pulled off a thrilling one-run win over Arumugam XI Patriots Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA second division league for the Unidrive Line Trophy at the TNAU grounds here on Sunday.

The scores: Sir Robert Stanes MC 189 in 48.2 overs (T. Selvakumar 41) bt Arumugam XI Patriots CC 188 in 45.4 overs.

Suryabala Cricketers 182 in 44.5 overs (Arumugapandi 43) bt Tirupur Textiles RC 168 in 44.3 overs.

Best VP XI CC 214 for eight in 50 overs bt PSG Technology 120 in 34 overs (Marappan 45 not out).
