Clean sweep by Ashwin Sundar

CHENNAI: Ashwin Sundar made a clean sweep of the races in the Formula Swift and Formula Hyundai categories in the 10th JK Tyre National road racing championship at Irungattukottai, near here, on Sunday.

At the end of the third leg, Team Ram’s Ashwin emerged as a strong contender to win the overall championship in both categories.

In the Hyundai class, Ashwin has so far tallied 64 points by coming first on five occasions and second, once. Sunday’s wins propelled Ram Racing into the lead for the team championship award.

Rayomand Banajee won both races in the Formula Rolon category. Both races produced close finishes and the Pune driver had to bring all his experience into play to finish ahead of Aditya Patel.

The results: Formula Rolon (eight laps): Race I: 1. Rayomand Banajee (14:39.07s); 2. Aditya Patel (14:39.58); 3. Anand Prasad (14:55.29). Race II: 1. Rayomand (14:44.599); 2. Aditya (14:49.513); 3. Gaurav Dalal (14:5 4.037). Formula LGB Hyundai (eight laps): Race I: 1. Ashwin Sunder (15:58.37); 2. Narain Shankar (16:00.89); 3. Banajee (16:01.56). Race II: 1. Ashwin (15:50.33); 2. Narain Shankar (15.58.86); 3. Banajee (15.59.37). Formula LGB Swift: Race I (seven laps): 1. Ashwin (13:42.78); 2. Aditya Patel (13:52.64); 3. Sudarshan (13:55.26). Race II (eight laps): 1.
