Chennai: The adidas-MCC National junior clay-court tennis championship will take place under the auspices of AITA and TNTA at MCC and five other venues from August 13 to 18. The tournament will be held in the boys’ and girls’ under-18 and under-14 (singles and doubles) categories. “Twenty states will be represented in this edition,” said Tournament Director Hiten Joshi, at a press conference, adding that a total of 597 entries have been received. The draw size for the boys’ and girls’ singles events will be 64 and 48 respectively. The qualifying rounds will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Some of the prominent boys’ under-18 players include Vijayant Malik (Chandigarh), Abhijeet Tiwari (Chattisgarh), Ronak Manuja (Maharashtra), N. Sriram Balaji and Priyank Gangadhran (Both Tamil Nadu). V. Archana (AP), Gopika Kapoor (Delhi), Tanvi R. Shah (Maharashtra), Rashmi Teltumbde (Maharashtra), Kelsey Sundaram and Nandita Krishnan (Both Tamil Nadu) will be the prominent under-18 girls in the fray.
