Easy outing for top seeds

VIJAYAWADA: Top seeds had an easy outing on the inaugural day of the three-day AP State-ranking table tennis tournament at Vijayawada Club here on Friday.

In the junior boys’ section, second-seeded Krishna Kiriti (Postal) outplayed Brahmaji Rao (WG) 12-10, 11-3, 11-8 in the first round.

In another match fourth-seeded A.V. Avinash (AWA) defeated Priyan Agarwal (SPTTA) 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.

Seven girls selected

Seven girls from Andhra Pradesh were selected for the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh volleyball academy at Vijayawada in the selection trials held recently, according to the District Sports Development Officer, B. Sudhakar, here on Friday.

The players: Amireddy Kalpana (Kri), Koppula Lakshmi Priya (Gun), Thirumalasetty Sai Priyanka (Gun), A. Naga Venkata Aswini Kumari (Kri), Kolagani Sandhya Rani (Gun), Pallani Ramadevi (Kham), Somana Divya (Kri).
Snooker tournament

A State-level Open snooker championship will be held at Guntur’s LVR Club from August 14, according to the club president, Peddi Subba Rao.

The District Collector, Mohammad Ali, will inaugurate the tournament.
Pat for medal winners

The Krishna District Taekwondo Association secretary, K. Venkateswara Rao, on Friday congratulated N. Kalyani (gold), P.B. Raghu (silver), R. Pavansai, L. Anil Kumar, Ch. Vijayabhaskar and A. Surendra (bronze) for winning medals in the State-level taekwondo championship held at Vizianagaram recently.
