Rohini hogs the limelight

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A.R. Rohini (Thiruvananthapuram) accounted for the lone record to be established on the opening day of the 55th State senior aquatics meet here on Saturday.

The second-degree student of SN College, Chempazhanthy, took the centrestage as she returned 29.7s in the 50m freestyle for women, pushing record holder M. Manusha (Thrissur) to the second spot. The previous record set last year by Manusha was 29.71s.

Other than this effort, quality performances were at a premium right through the hectic day. However, it was still a pleasing day for the home district which led the overall points tally with 205 points after 20 events, ahead of Thrissur (154) and Kollam (46).
