It will have a corpus of Rs. 65 cr. To function on PPP model
KOLKATA: The Steel Development Research Mission, being set up to promote research and development activities in the steel sector, is expected to become functional by the end of this year, said R. S. Pandey, Secretary, Union Ministry of Steel, here on Friday. The mission, to be set up in a public-private partnership model, would have a corpus of Rs. 60-65 crore, with the government acting only as a facilitator. The decision to form the mission was taken sometime in June at a meeting attended by all major public and private sector steel producers, including Steel Authority of India, the Tatas, and the Jindals. No separate institution would, however, be set up and the mission would function in the virtual mode by leveraging the strengths of existing educational institutions, Mr. Pandey said, on the sidelines of a seminar on ‘Opportunities in the Steel Industry’, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
