NEW DELHI: Opting for safety-first methods, defending champion P. Hari Krishna played out a listless 28-move draw with Hungary’s joint leader Csaba Balogh in the fourth round of the Marx Gyorgy memorial chess tournament in Paks, Hungary, on Wednesday. Hari’s third successive draw came after the players were left with a pair of rooks, a knight and pawns. The result took Hari’s tally to 1.5 points and helped him retain the shared fifth spot with Chinese girl Hou Yifan in the six-player field. The results: Marx Gyorgy memorial (fourth round): P. Hari Krishna (1.5) drew with Csaba Balogh (Hun, 2.5); Peter Acs (Hun, 2) lost to Viktor Korchnoi (Swi, 2.5); Ferenc Berkes (Hun, 2) drew with Hou Yifan (Chn, 1.5). Paks Cup (fourth round): Tania Sachdev (0.5) lost to Andras Flumbort (Hun, 2); Gyozo Pataki (Hun, 1) lost to Krisztian Szabo (Hun, 3); David Smerdon (Aus, 1.5) lost to Yu Shaoteng (Chn, 2); Vladislav Nevednichy (Rom, 2.5) drew with Mih ai Grunberg (Rom, 1.5); Attila Groszpeter (Hun, 3) drew with Gabor Papp (Hun, 3). Hogeschool Zeeland tournament (sixth round): Ariette van Weersel (Ned, 4) lost to Dibyendu Barua (5); Saheli Dhar-Barua (4.5) bt Deep Sengupta (3.5). Badalona International Open (seventh round): K. Priyadarshan (4.5) lost to Vidal Yuri Gonzalez (Cub, 5.5).
