BANGALORE: K. Chandana of Carmel Convent, Jayanagar and S.N. Roshan of BNMS, Banshankari IInd stage set the pace on the opening day of the 8th KPMG-Cadet Bangalore City Inter schools athletic meet here on Thursday. While Roshan came up trumps on the home stretch in the 800m boys’ under-16, Chandana ran a start-to finish two lap race in the corresponding girls’ under-16 in a record time of 2:27.5s. Chandana’s effort was way ahead of the earlier mark of 2:33.3s set by Toshna Dayal of Baldwins. Chandana incidentally had won two gold and a bronze in the butterfly events in the just concluded senior State swimming championship. Three new meet records were set and two equalled on this day. Varun’s four for six spell helped Seshadripuram HS defeat New Public HS by 68 runs in a Boost Cup under-17 tournament match in Bangalore on Thursday. Seshadripuram HS scored 135 for nine in 30 overs and bundled out New Public HS for 67 in 20.5 overs. The scores: Seshadripuram HS 135 for nine in 30 overs (Santosh four for 20) bt New Public HS 67 in 20.5 overs (Varun four for six). HASC dished out an aggressive brand of football for a 3-0 win over BEL and ensured itself a third place finish in the Super Division football league at the Football Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday. HASC has now tallied 16 points with a match against MEG to play while BEL has completed its engagements with seven points. HASC shot into the lead in the 17th minute through Karuna. Xavier Vijay Kumar added to the tally in the 62nd minute before Murali completed the scoreline with a penalty conversion in the 82nd. Vijaya Vidyalaya wins
Vijaya Vidyalaya propelled by Sandeep’s double strike (10th &26th) notched up a 5-0 win over St. Aloyisous High School in the Rotary inter-school hockey tournament for the Randhawa Memorial Trophy. Ambarish (2nd) opened up the scoring and Shivanand (23rd) and Narasimalu (45th) added to the final tally. Frank Anthony Public School beat Sarvodaya (Tumkur) 2-0 with Joshua (21st) and Khalin Joshi (30th) finding the target. St. Patricks beat Ryan International 4-0 with Joseph Roy (7th & 18th) netting a brace and Martin (14th) and Shabeer (16th) scoring one each. Bangalore Military School and Government Azad School (Bellary) played out a 2-2 draw. Vikas Kallal (10th) and Laxman Singh (39th) scored for BMS while Thimmappa (20th) and Hunnur Swamy (37th) ensured honours were shared.
