Jayaram CET triumphs

Tiruchi: Jayaram CET scored a thrilling one-run win over holder JJ CET in the final of the Anna University inter-collegiate (zone VIII) cricket tournament at Saranathan Engineering College grounds in Tiruchi.

The scores (final): Jayaram CET 173 in 29.5 overs (Rajesh 59) bt JJ CET 172 in 30 overs (S.R. Viswanathan 40).

Narrow win for Jamal

Jamal Mohammed College edged out Annamalai University 2-1 to win the hockey title at the A. Veeriah Vandayar Memorial tournament, conducted by the Poondi Pushpam College, here on Wednesday.

A. Ahmed Hussain gave Jamal the lead just before the break. But M. Harikrishnan equalised through a penalty stroke eight minutes into the second half.

Ahmed Hussain struck again in the dying minutes of the match to ensured a win for Jamal.

Meanwhile, Sathyabama University defeated Jamal Mohammed College 77-46 to clinch the basketball title. The winner led 33-22 at half time.

The results (all finals):

Hockey: Jamal Mohammed College 2 (A. Ahmed Hussain 2) bt Annamalai University 1 (M. Harikrishnan). Basketball: Sathyabama University 77 (Bopanna 21) bt Jamal Mohammed College 46 (Jithesh 17).

Taekwondo meet

Over 1200 taekwondo players from various Districts in Tamil Nadu will participate in the 20th State Taekwondo Championship, to be conducted by the Tiruchi District Amateur Taekwondo Association, from August 10 to 12 at S.M.K. Kalayanamahal, Vayalur, Tiruchi.

The tournament will be held in senior, junior and sub-junior categories.

Easy for RKS

RKS Cricket Academy scored a nine-wicket win over ICC in a rain-hit Canara Bank-CDCA first division league match for the Pricol Trophy in Coimbatore recently.

The scores:

ICC 107 in 27 overs lost to RKS CA 76 for one in 29 overs (Venkatesh 42 not out). (Target revised due to rain).

Road race

The 16th inter-school and inter-collegiate (for men) road race will be flagged off by Mohinder Singh, Commandant, 105 Battalion, Rapid Action Force (Vellalore), from the SNMV College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore on August 11 at 8.30 a.m.

TT tournament

Cordite Factory Recreation Club (CFRC) will conduct a district level table tennis tournament at the CFRC in Aruvankadu on August 11 and 12.

Pandarinath wins

B. Pandarinath of Campion Anglo Indian HSS defeated R. Vivek of Srirangam Boys HSS 21-15, 21-12 to win the under-19 title at the Tiruchi educational District-level badminton tournament in Tiruchi on Thursday.

Under-19: (all finals): Singles: B. Pandarinath (Campion AI HSS) bt R. Vivek (Srirangam Boys HSS) 21-15, 21-12. Doubles: B. Pandarinath & P. Rukkrish Kumar (Campion AI HSS) bt K. Aravind & T.J. Nagaraj (RSK HSS) 21-16, 21-14.
