Sudharsan wins two titles

Sivakasi: A.K. Sudharasan of Virudhunagar won two titles in the boys’ under-16 section (singles and doubles) in the Tamil Nadu State sub-junior badminton championship here on Thursday.

Others who won two titles were Naveen of Cuddalore (u-13) in the boys’ section and S. Archana of Coimbatore (u-16), Merlin Rachel of Madurai (u-13), K.A. Vikashini of Coimbatore (u-10) in the girls’ section.

The results (all finals): Boys: U-16 (singles): A.K. Sudharasan (Vnr) bt C. Ashwin (Slm) 22-20, 18-21, 21-12; Doubles: A.K. Sudharsan & C. Ashwin bt C.R. Manikandan & G. Sarath 21-17, 22-20.

Armed Police moves up

Armed Police (Madurai) entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 29th annual Ravi Memorial Trophy State-level open basketball tournament defeating Pattiveeranpatti Basketball Club 72-65 in a closely-fought match at the MSPN HSS ground, Dindigul on Thursday. At the interval, the teams were level 32-32.

The results: Armed Police, Madurai 72 (Arun Kumar 25, Manivasagani 12, John Wilson 10) bt Pattiveeranpatti BC 65 (M. Kannan 18, Ramesh Babu 15, Dinesh Sankar 13).
Ajay in joint lead

Eighteen players, including top seed Ajay Srikanth of Chennai in the boys’ section and 12 players, including top seed J. Mohanapriya of Kancheepuram in the girls’ section are leading with two points each at the end of the second round of the 20th Tamil Nadu State under-13 chess championship at Palani on Thursday.

Yadava in last four

Yadava College, Madurai entered the semifinal round-robin league of the 18th State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament defeating Sathyabama University, Chennai 25-19, 25-21 at Madurai on Thursday.

PSNA, SIT win

PSNA College of Engineering, Dindigul beat host KLN College of Engineering 3-0 for the men’s team title, while Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti beat PSNA College of Engineering 2-0 for the women’s team title in the Anna University three-day zone IX inter-engineering college badminton tournament, which concluded at Madurai recently.

The results: Men: Final: PSNA College of Engg. bt KLN CE 3-0 (Sunil bt Vinoth 21-15, 21-12; Rajkumar bt Ashwanth 21-11, 21-8; Sunil & Rajkumar bt Vinoth & Ganesh 21-8, 21-8).

Third place: Mount Zion CE, Pudukottai bt ACCET, Karaikudi 3-1. Semifinals: KLN CE bt Mount Zion CE 3-2; PSNA CE bt ACCET 3-1.

Women: Final: SIT, Kariapatti bt PSNA CE, Dindigul 2-0 (Jayanthi bt Vijaya Jothi 21-7, 21-4; Jeba & Jayanthi bt Saranya & Mehala 21-3, 21-5).

Third place: KLN CE bt Thiagarajar CE 2-0. Semifinals: SIT bt KLN CE 2-0; PSNA bt TCE 2-0.

Arlene shines

Arlene Correya finished first in the javelin, discus, shot-put and long jump events at the Brunei veteran athletics event, recently. The ICF (Chennai) employee had earlier finished first in the discus and shot-put events at the Singapore Master Athletics championship. She finished second in long jump.
