HYDERABAD: Hot favourite Rajesh Choudary began with a flourish as he won both the races held in the Laser Standard category on the opening day of the Laser National sailing championship at the Hussainsagar lake on Monday morning. Strong winds in the morning session helped the sailors to give a good performance. The tall and sturdy Rajesh used his physical strength as well as his experience and knowledge of the winds to power his way to two well deserved victories in the face of stiff competition from the leading contenders including N.S. Johal and Harihara. In the first race the wind speed ranged between 14 to 16 knots. Out of the 27 sailors who started the race only 13 were able to finish. Initially it was Harihara of AYN who was in the lead closely followed by Johal. But after the first beat Rajesh took over the leading spot and then retained his position till the end.

Jasveer Singh (AYN) 52:03. 3. Ajay Rao (RMYC) 52:05. Laser 4.7 class: First race: 1. Mrinalini (TNSA) 47:30, 2. Swetha (TNSA) 47:59, 3. Navin Shirodkar (NDA) 48:33. Second race: 1. Navin Shirodkar (NDA) 45:40, 2. Swetha (TNSA) 45:47, 3. Mrinalini (TNSA) 47:05. Laser Radial: First race: 1. B.K. Rout (AYN) 53:32, 2. P. Madhu (AYN) 54:10, 3. Parvinder Singh (AYN) 54:54. Second race: 1. B.K. Rout (AYN) 58:35, 2. Dharmender Singh (AYN) 59:33, 3.Parvidner Singh (AYN) 1hr:04s.
