TNCA does well

Principal Correspondent

Bangalore: Intermittent rains and damp conditions played spoilsport but in the intervening period when there was adequate light, the TNCA seamers and fielders put up a good display that restricted ONGC to 107 for five in 40.3 overs in a KSCA-all India invitation tournament match that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.

Play commenced after lunch and ONGC’s decision to bat appeared wrong as opener Virender Sehwag flashed and missed the first delivery off seamer Thamizh Kumaran and succumbed to the next delivery, cutting hard and finding a diving S. Aniruddha pouching the ball at point.

59-run partnership

Sandeep Sharma (32) and Gagan Khoda (27) strung a 59-run second wicket partnership but Khoda fell as he was a split second slow in grounding his bat while backing up and Ashwin fired in a throw from mid-wicket.

Sandeep Sharma too departed immediately, slashing Amarnath to gully and later Radheyshyam chanced his arm against Thamizh Kumaran and failed to get past the inner ring.

A persistent drizzle and fading light curtailed the final session of the day’s play and while ONGC hopes to extend its tenure at the crease in Tuesday, TNCA can take heart from its seamers though wicket-keeper Gopinath’s two dropped catches might be a cause for worry.

In anoother match, Chemplast replied with 139 for three in reply to KSCA Colts’ 173.

The scores: ONGC 107 for five in 40.3 overs vs TNCA.

KSCA Colts 173 in 47.2 overs (including 30 penalty runs) vs. Chemplast 139 for three in 44 overs (Yashpal Singh 46 batting).

Air-India 158 for one in 34 overs (Sushanth Marathe 81 batting) vs. Hyderabad CA.
