‘Make sports part of school curriculum’

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Education Minister, M.A. Baby, said that both the sports and education departments should take steps to make sports part of school curriculum.

The minister was speaking at the sports award function of the University of Kerala here on Monday.

Mr. Baby said that systematic training should be given to students who show aptitude to sports at school-level. Arjuna Awardee, Padmini Thomas, urged college managements to sponsor talented sportspersons.

An amount of Rs.5.76 lakhs was distributed as prize money to 377 sportspersons who had won medals at inter-university meets during the 2005-06 season.

The G.V. Raja Award for the best college in men’s section for 2006-07 season was bagged by SD College (Alappuzha), while the Susan Mable Trophy for the best college in women’s section was won by LNCPE (Kariyavattom). — Principal Correspondent
