Rajiv Sadhbhavana Run on August 20

HYDERABAD: The annual, Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Run will be organised on August 20 to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, in the City, V. Hanumanth Rao, who has been running the show for the last 13 years, said.

Mr. Rao said that about 10,000 people are expected to take part in the run to be flagged off from four different centres – BJR Statue, Nehru Statue, Ambedkar Statue and Mahatma Gandhi Statue — between 8 and 8.30 a.m.

The run will culminate at Rajiv Gandhi Statue in Somajiguda by 9.30 a.m., where the Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and APCC Chief, Keshava Rao, will address the gathering.

Half-marathon

Meanwhile, the State Government also announced that it would organise Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas half-marathon on August 20.

The meet is open for all men and women above-18 years and for boys and girls in the age group of 15 to 19 years.

The half-marathon would start at 7 a.m. and finish at Jubilee Hall (Public Gardens).

Participants should report on August 19 at the Lal Bahadur Stadium between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for registration.

Inter-district wrestling championship

Andhra Pradesh Wrestling Association will organise the inter-district championship for men and women and boys and girls in Nalgonda from August 10 to 12 in different weight categories.

The State teams to take part in the forthcoming Nationals will be picked based on the performances here.

Sports meet

Hyderabad District Government Employees Sports and Cultural Association will organise sports meet on August 8 ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

Talent series tennis

All India Talent Series tennis tournament will be organised at SAAP Tennis Complex here from August 18 to 25.

The tournament is open for boys and girls in the age group of 14 to 18 years.

Big win for Veva

Veva scored a 100-run win over Youth Cricket Club in the Friendship Monsoon Cup cricket tournament here.

The scores:

Veva 161 for eight (Kiran 76) bt Youth CC 61 (Fareed four for eight); HSBC 46 (Dharmesh Patel four for eight) lost to Talwar Hyundai 48 for no loss.

Taekwondo meet

Secunderabad Taekwondo Club will organise Independence Day taekwondo championship for seniors, juniors and sub-juniors on August 11 at YMCA Secunderabad from 8.00 am. About 60 clubs and 500 competitors will be in the fray for the meet.

Pradeep to lead Krishna district

At Vijayawada, A.G. Pradeep will lead the Krishna district under-22 team in the ACA Central Zone inter-district cricket tournament to be held at Bhimavaram (West Godavari distrcit) from August 10 to 15.
