Congratulations to Rahul Dravid and his team for winning the second Test at Trent Bridge. No doubt it was a fine team effort. Perhaps it would be in the fitness of things if India completed the series with a 2-0 margin to mark the 75th anniversary of Indian Test cricket. N. Mahadevan, Chennai Good win, but…
It was an impressive victory no doubt at Trent Bridge but there were some worrying aspects. Particularly of concern was the poor scoring rate even after crossing England’s meagre first innings. There was nothing in the pitch and the bowling was far from menacing. This is where a Ricky Ponting or a Brian Lara would have seized the opportunity. T.S. Pattabhi Raman, Coimbatore Not cricket
The Trent Bridge Test was not played in the true traditions of a gentleman’s game. The jelly-bean incident did no credit to English cricket just as Sreesanth’s tantrums had no place in the game. T.V. Ramamurthy, Chennai Unlucky
Sachin Tendulkar lost an opportunity to score another Test century not because of the nervous 90 syndrome but an error by the ‘Best Umpire of the Year’ Simon Taufel. Such things happen in cricket but Tendulkar is sure to bounce back from this setback. V. Ramamurthi, Srirangam Let Third Umpire decide
LBW decisions are not only puzzling for umpires but also trigger discussions for the cricket fraternity to fret and fume. Maybe the ICC should allow the use of the Third Umpire. Already run-outs are referred to him, perhaps ‘LBW’ decisions too should be scrutinised by the Third Umpire. K.N. Srinivasan, Chennai
