BJP for multipronged strategy

Neena Vyas

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is working on a multipronged strategy in the hope that it will get an opportunity to form a government in Goa.

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Another one, seeking a directive to the Governor that he summon the Assembly and give the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) an opportunity to prove its majority on the floor of the House, is expected to be filed in a day or two.

Rajiv Pratap Rudy, in charge of the party’s political affairs in Goa, told reporters that GDA chairman Anil Salgaonkar had sought time to meet President Pratibha Patil. GDA leader Manohar Parrikar was trying to meet Home Minister Shivraj Patil. The party was hoping that the meeting would come through on Thursday. It wants to impress upon Mr. Patil that President’s rule was not called for as Mr. Parrikar enjoyed majority support.

Mr. Rudy said the BJP was not guilty of any destabilising game.
