Corrections and clarifications

* *The caption of the accompanying AP photograph in a report “[Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister] Rajasekhara Reddy should quit: CPI(M) and TDP” (July 30, 2007, page 1) was: “Collective Grief: Relatives and villagers beside the bodies of victims of the Mudigonda police firing, in Khamman, on Sunday.” It should have been Khammam, as in the text of the report.

* *A report “[Defence Minister A.K.] Anthony arrives in Kashmir, visits Aman Setu in Uri.” (July 28, 2007) mentioned the designation “General Officer Commanding, Northern Command”. The correct term for a n officer commanding an Army Command is “General Officer Commanding-in-Chief”, which in this case should have been, “General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command”, or, GOC-in-C in the abbreviated form. General Officer Commanding or GOC is used for officers commanding corps and divisions.

* *Due to an editing error, Nepal’s Madheshi community was wrongly described in an article “Nepal: experiencing pangs of transition” (Editorial page, July 27, 2007) as “Hindi-speaking”. The author of the article, Prof. S.D. Muni points out that the Madheshis speak Bhojpuri, Maithili and Nepali along with Hindi.

* *A sentence in a report “Monica Bedi released from jail” (July 26, 2007) was: “Ms. Bedi and Salem were arrested in Spain on September 2002 following a red corner notice issued by Interpol.” It was an error. They were arrested in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 18, 2002.
