NEW DELHI: Ankita Das ensured a bronze medal in the cadet girls section by virtue of being a losing semifinalist in the Asian junior table tennis champoinship at Hoengseong, Korea, on Sunday. Ankita lost to China’s Chen Meng 11-13, 4-11, 5-11, 2-11 in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, Ankita surprised Hong Kong’s Lee Ho Ching 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8. By making the last-four grade, Ankita also qualified for the World junior championship and World cadet challenge to be played in Cape Town, South Africa, from October 23 to 28. In the cadet boys section, lone Indian qualifier Saurav Saha lost to Song Hongyuan 9-11, 8-11, 6-11, 6-11 in the first outing. In the under-18 section, Soumyajit Ghosh lost to Chinese Taipei’s Chian Hung Chieh 5-11, 9-11, 2-11, 5-11 in the first round.
