Ernakulam to host Ranji Trophy match

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ernakulam will be the venue of Kerala’s lone Ranji Trophy home match during the coming season. The Plate Group B match against Services is to be played from November 12 to 15.

The decision to entrust the EDCA with the conduct of the match was taken by the KCA special general body meeting here on Sunday. Kerala is to play all its remaining five matches in the six-team league, away from home.

Giving details of the other decisions taken at the meeting, the KCA interim president, T.R. Balakrishnan, at a press conference, said that Thiruvananthapuram would host both the South Zone tournaments allotted to the KCA. The M.A. Chidambaram Trophy under-19 tournament will be held from October 20 to 25 and the P. Krishnamurthy Trophy under-15 tournament from November 1 to 20. The organising committee for the India-Australia match to be held in Kochi on October 2 will be constituted on August 12.

Asked about the progress made by the inquiry committee appointed to go into the findings of the KCA in-house internal audit team, Mr. Balakrishnan said the inquiry committee, which had met for the first time here on Saturday, would meet again on August 10 in Kochi.

Answering another question, he said there were several discrepancies in the internal audit committee report and that the committee had victimised at least six District Cricket Associations. Asked whether the KCA was disowning the audit report, Mr. Balakrishnan, without giving a direct reply, said another internal audit would be ordered soon to go into the accounts of the remaining eight DCAs, the accounts pertaining to the construction of the KCA complex here and other financial transactions.

The KCA interim president also failed to give a satisfactory reply when asked about the impropriety of nominating S.N. Sudhir Aly as chairman of the scorers and statisticians sub-committee of the KCA especially when the latter (a KCA employee) was asked to proceed on leave following adverse remarks against him in the internal audit report.
