Double for Karthik

Mysore: Unseeded C.P. Karthik of Winner’s Choice Academy, Bangalore, made a dramatic come-back into the State table tennis scene after a lay-off of one year to hog the limelight on the concluding day by winning the men’s and the youth boys’ singles titles in the second K.C. Bimbesh Memorial State-ranking table tennis championship, which concluded at the Vontikoppal Club here on Sunday.

Karthik, an engineering student from B.M.S. College of Engineering, showing no signs of rustiness, played an attacking game to register a 11-8, 11-9, 11-5, 11-3 win over an erratic Samson Selvakumar of Canara Bank, Bangalore, in the men’s final. Earlier in the day, Karthik was stretched by second-seeded Akhil V in the youth boys’ final. Karthik won a close contest 11-6, 11-9, 13-15, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9.

Youth Boys: Final: C.P.Karthik (WCA) bt V.Akhil (BNM) 11-6, 11-9, 13-15, 9-`11, 11-9, 11-9. Semifinals: C.P. Karthik (WCA) bt A.R. Navaneeth (HOR) 11-7, 11-8, 11-6, 11-8; V. Akhil bt B.M. Sagar (WCA) 9-11, 12-10, 8- 11, 5-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8. Cadet Boys: Final: Vedanth M Urs (PTTA) bt M. Shreyas (STAR) 5-11, 11-6, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9. Veteran’s: Final: B.S.
