A priest performing ‘annabhishekam’ to the idol of Shirdi Sai Baba in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
VISAKHAPATNAM: ‘Annabhishekams’ were the highlight of ‘Gurupoornima’ celebrations in the city on Sunday. At many temples including the ‘Shirdi Sai Baba Spiritual Centre’ and ‘Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakaswami aalayam’ in Seethammadhara, the organisers performed ‘Sudharsana Homam’ in the morning along with other rituals. In the evening, Mohan Swamy, chief priest Raja Swamy and others at the Spiritual Centre performed annabhishekam with the members of the management committee present. The huge rush of devotees were regulated to have darshan of Sri Saibaba. Chief priest Balu Swamy and his team at the Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka aalayam poured cooked rice over the Sri Saibaba idol and it was decorated. Later ‘harati’ was performed and prasadam was distributed among devotees. A 1,000 kg of rice was cooked for the abhishekam. At Sri Shirdisai Dyanamandir in Kailasapuram, Ksheerabhishekam was performed to Saibaba idol followed by other programmes including mass Saivratams. The celebrations were also conducted by Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Datta Gnana Bodha Sabha Trust, which conducted Guru Paaduka Puja at its centre opposite the District Court. Discourse
Distribution of food at the School for the Blind in Sagarnagar and a spiritual discourse by noted Sanskrit and Telugu scholar M. Dattatreya Sastry at the centre in the evening was held, besides, Vyakti Vikas Kendra conducted the celebrations on a large scale at Gurazada Kalakshetram in the evening with cultural and literary competitions, Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra organised mass meditation in the morning, followed by puja.
