Tourism potential remains untapped in Adilabad
S. Harpal Singh
AWAITING RECOGNITION: The ancient temple of Laxminarayana Swamy at Jainad.
ADILABAD: Besides the abundant greenery, there are many other places of interest in and around Adilabad district that warrant tapping of tourism potential here. Tourism in the district is one sector which never had enough of concentration from the Government’s side which has also kept the private sector rather aloof.
Tourist centres
A proposal made by MP T. Madhusudan Reddy and MLA C. Ramchander Reddy for declaration of Adilabad town and a few other places in its surroundings as tourist centre has been gathering dust since about one year. An official team had made inquiries but there was no further news on it.
A proposal for development of nine places as sites estimated to cost about Rs. 2 crores is also awaiting green signal. The proposal includes development of Gandhi park in Adilabad town, Kadem project at Kadem, Dharmasagar tank, Shamgadh fort and Battisgarh forts at Nirmal, Kuntala water falls in Neredigonda mandal, Pochera waterfalls in Boath mandal, Laxminarayana Swamy temple in Jainad mandal and of course the Goddess Gnana Saraswati temple at Basar.
