HYDERABAD: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has squarely blamed the Left parties and the Telugu Desam leadership for Saturday’s violence and asked the latter not to play with the ‘lives of the poor’. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Government Chief Whip, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Ministers, T. Jeevan Reddy and K. Ramakrishna and MLCs, P. Sudhakar Reddy and G. Rudraraju, dubbed the agitation for house sites as uncalled for. Indiramma
They said the agitation over the land issue was meaningless as the Government had embarked on a massive Housing programme under Indiramma scheme apart from distributing house sites to the poor. It had already allotted Rs.500 crore for buying house sites for the poor in case there was no land. Last year work on 20 lakh houses was grounded and similar numbers were allotted this year. A massive drive to identify assigned lands in four months had been undertaken and 12 lakh acres had been restored to the original allottees. In all 22,000 acres had been allotted to fresh applicants and 2.5 lakh notices had been served to take over 21 lakh acres more of land grabbed by others. Housing was a part of the Congressmanifesto and the others were trying to take credit for the work of the Government, they said.
