NEW DELHI: Cueists dished out below-par performances while a few opted to stay away despite sending in their entries in the National one-cushion carombole championship at the Billiardco Hall here on Friday. Inexperience shows
With the matches played on the basis of 150-point format or 60 visits, whichever is earlier, the inexperience of Indian cueists in carombole was evident. With the seeded cueists set to play from the pre-quarterfinal stage, better scores can be expected from Saturday. H.S. Bhogal, the joint-secretary of the Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association (DBSA), recorded his second win to make it to the pre-quarterfinals. Bhogal defeated M. K. Verma 26-15 and set up a tough tie against former Asian snooker champion, Alok Kumar. The results: Second round: Sandeep Gulati bt G.S. Sandhu 28-17, H.S. Bhogal bt M.K. Verma 26-15. First round: Karan Manwani bt Vivek Pathak 24-19, Anil Sabhrawal bt Sandip Duggal 29-22; Rishit Jain w/o Anuj Ahuja; Sandeep Singh w/o Varun Raheja. — Principal Correspondent
