NEW DELHI: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up a lean gas (blast furnace gas) combined cycle power plant of 150 MW through a joint venture at the Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant. The MoU was signed by P. K. Bishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, RINL, and T. Sankaralingam, Chairman and Managing Director, National Thermal Power Corporation. According to the agreement, the power required by RINL would be made available by the joint venture company at the bus-Bar of the project for off-take by RINL with an option to supply the surplus power to other consumers. NTPC would have the management control of the proposed joint venture and its Chairman would be nominated by NTPC. Further, a joint working group would be formed to undertake various activities related to preparation of feasibility report and selection of suitable technology to establish techno-commercial viability of the proposed project. The joint venture would be named as NTPC-RINL Power Company Limited.
