NEW DELHI: Seeking an end to the unrest between followers of Dera Sacha Sauda and members of the Sikh community, Dera spokesperson Aditya Insaan on Thursday called for acceptance of their apology and restoration of peace in Punjab. Referring to the May 13 incident where Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh appeared in newspaper advertisements purportedly in attire similar to that of Guru Gobind Singh, Mr. Aditya said: “The Dera has already apologised thrice to the Sikh community.” Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Aditya said: “The situation in Punjab is worsening and people are fleeing because of forced religious conversions. In addition, false cases are being filed against Dera followers and they are being harassed endlessly.” “Dividing families”
“The social boycotting of Dera followers is dividing religions and families,” said Himani Insaan, president of the women’s wing of the Dera . Criticising the Sikh leaders for rejecting the apology, the Dera spokesperson called upon the President, the Prime Minister, Sikh intellectuals and society to take note of the grim situation in Punjab and help rescue the State out of religious turmoil.
