New Delhi: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Thursday made it clear that the Salem Railway division will be inaugurated on September 14 as scheduled. Mr. Karunanidhi told reporters here that Minister of State for Railways R. Velu, who met him on Thursday, confirmed the date of inauguration. A function would be organised in Salem on that day and he would be attending it. Asked about Kerala’s objection to the bifurcation of the Palakkad division and a petition filed in the Supreme Court, he said, “Railways will deal with it.” Asked about the visit of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh to Chennai, he said Mr. Singh would be attending the first meeting of the Tamil Classical Language Committee in the city on August 18. Matters related to two awards named after Tamil savants Tholkappiyar and Thiruvalluvar would be discussed. Mr. Singh had confirmed this, Mr. Karunanidhi added.
