Lok Satta kicks off campaign against liquor in State

Mahila Satta identifies unlicensed shops Immediate closure of belt shops sought
HYDERABAD: Lok Satta on Thursday kicked off its campaign of identifying unauthorised liquor shops in villages and towns all over the State and demanded their immediate closure.
The party announced in a statement that women activists sent letters to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to draw his attention to his own claim that there were no belt shops in the State and that the Government would have them shut down, if anybody informed about their existence.

The Mahila Satta, women’s wing of Lok Satta, identified 11 unlicensed shops in Chandanagar in the city and 65 in four mandals of Chittoor district on the very first day of the campaign. National convener of Lok Satta N. Jayaprakash Narayan, in a letter to the Chief Minister, sought the immediate closure of the belt shops and also licensed outlets along the national highways, imposition of ban on consumption of liquor openly at the licensed shops.
He pointed out that 50 lakh families in the State were on the verge of ruin due to addiction to liquor.
