Ajay, Srinivasan hit hundreds

Chennai: Jolly Rovers’ Ajay Kudua and R. Srinivasan of India Pistons notched up hundreds on the second day of the fourth round in the TNCA first division league.

In a key duel between holder Vijay and Jolly Rovers at the IIT-Chemplast ground, Vijay, replying to the host’s first innings 417, was 93 without loss at stumps.

N. Einstein followed up his four-wicket haul bowling off-spin with an unbeaten 55 (107b, 8x4). Einstein and K. Varun Kumar (35 batting) have so far batted for 32 overs.

Rovers, resuming at 266 for six, crossed the 400-run mark, with Ajay Kudua (123, 251b, 16x4, 1x6) and Tinu Yohannan (32) adding 98 for the eighth wicket in 37.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Sree Kumar Nair scalped three batsmen.

R. Srinivasan’s 104 (277b, 11x4) – his second century of the season - and a useful unbeaten 59 (138b, 5x4) from C. Ganapathy enabled India Pistons declare at 348 for nine against Grand Slam at the ICL-Guru Nanak ground. Off-spinner S. Suresh Kumar claimed three wickets.

Anirudha’s distinction

Aruna opener S. Anirudha crossed 500 runs for the season in his sixth innings when he made 73 (70b, 7x4, 4x6) in his side’s 217 for five against Young Stars at the RKM-Vivekananda ground. The left-handed C. Hemant Kumar is unbeaten on 50 (117b, 7x4).

Eagle struggling

Pacemen P. Satish (four for 53) and V. Rajnikant (three for 52) caused most of the damage as Eagle CC, replying to Indian Bank’s first innings 336, was struggling at 143 for nine at MAC. Wilkins Victor, who has added 47 for the last wicket with Senthil Kumar (17 batting), was unbeaten on 39.

At the SRMC ground, Alwarpet was 201 for nine, needing 26 more runs for the lead over Parry’s. For Alwarpet, V. Subramania Siva made 48.

The scores: At ICL-Guru Nanak: India Pistons 348 for nine decl. in 160 overs (E. Arun Kumar 69, R. Srinivasan 104, C. Ganapathy 59 not out) vs Grand Slam 55 without loss in 21 overs (K.B. Arun Karthik 42 batting).

At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 417 in 145.4 overs (M. Vijay 57, S. Vasanth Saravanan 104, Ajay Kudua 123, N. Einstein four for 77) vs Vijay 93 without loss in 32 overs (N. Einstein 55 batting).

At Viveka: Young Stars 293 in 116.5 overs (S. Anand 82, L.N. Prasad Reddy 63) vs Aruna 217 for five in 61 overs (S. Anirudha 73, C. Hemant Kumar 50 batting).

At MRF-Pachaiyappa’s: Globe Trotters 437 for eight decl. in 144.5 overs (Y. Venugopala Rao 135, Sunil Viswanathan 60, Gowjith Subash 85, U. Sushil 44) vs IOB 106 for three in 33 overs (Promod Doss 52 batting).

At MAC: Indian Bank 336 in 130.1 overs (K.H. Gopinath 158, S. Dinesh Kumar 82) vs Eagle CC 143 for nine in 50 overs (P. Satish four for 43).

At SRMC: Parry’s 226 vs Alwarpet 201 for nine in 98 overs (V. Subramania Siva 48).
