Ambedkar SC beats Bharath Sports Union

Bangalore: Ambedkar SC defeated Bharath Sports Union 52-50 through extra-time in a State ‘B’ division basketball league match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Wednesday evening.

The teams were tied at 40-40 at full-time before Ambedkar SC pulled ahead in extra-time. Kiran (18) excelled for Ambedkar SC while Bharath Sports Union despite leading 26-15 at half-time frittered away the advantage.

Akshata in two finals

Hewlett Packard’s Akshata entered the women’s singles and doubles finals of the Ventures ‘serve rally smash’ corporate table tennis tournament held here during the last weekend. The finals will be held during the coming weekend.

Semifinals: Singles: Akshata (HP) bt Dhiral (TCS) 11-4, 11-5, 11-6; Gitanjali (Oracle) bt Ramya (Mind Tree) 5-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8. Shreyas scalps four

Shreyas bagged four wickets (four for 10) and helped Venkat International Public School defeat Lady Wellington School by 118 runs in a B.T. Ramaiah Shield inter-school tournament match here recently.

Venkat International Public School scored 193 for eight in 30 overs and bundled out Lady Wellington School for 75 in 22.2 overs.

Ryan International School 106 for nine in 25 overs bt Himamshi Jyothi Kala Peetha 105 in 22.5 overs.

St. Mira’s HS 110 for five in 27 overs lost to Lilly Rose English School 111 for three in 22.3 overs.

Carmel HS 138 for eight in 20 overs bt Schoenstaff St. Mary’s School 102 for five in 20 overs.
Easy for STC (B’lore)

STC Bangalore defeated STC Calicut 2-0 in a SAI South Zone inter-hostel football tournament match at the Football Stadium here on Wednesday.

K. Shiva Kumar (35th min.) and Raghavendra (70th min.) scored for the victors.

Both teams qualified for the final on Friday as STC Bangalore topped the league with an all-win record (nine points) while STC Calicut emerged second with four points.

Meanwhile in an earlier match, STC Kurnool held STC Kollam to a 1-1 draw.

Sam Koshy’s 66th minute strike helped STC Kollam edge ahead but STC Kurnool drew parity through D. Shekar’s effort in the 70th minute.

Thursday is a rest day for the tournament.
No sweat for Belgaum

Belgaum District Hockey Club beat Naveen Hockey Club ‘B’ 6-1 in the State ‘C’ division league tournament here on Wednesday.

The result: Belgaum District HC (Kashif Saudagar 14th, 52nd, Nazeemuddin 39th, 54th, Irfan Behesti 24th, Ateeq 54th) bt Naveen HC (Niranjan 22nd).
ABHS in final

Abhinava Bharathi High School (ABHS), Mandya, entered the final of the ACUK Mysore Forum’s inter-district schools tournament here on Wednesday.

ABHS beat Marimallappa’s High School, Mysore, by five wickets in the seminfinals.

The scores (semifinals):

Marimallappa’s High School 76 for nine in 30 overs (Vishal three for 13) lost to Abhinava Bharathi HS, Mandya 77 for five in 14.4 overs (Suchith three for 21).

JSS High School, Saraswathipuram 104 for eight in 30 overs (Dhanava three for four) lost to Mahabodhi High School 106 for six in 14.3 overs (Aggo 42 not out).
