Anniversary celebrated

The anniversary of ‘Subam’ a service organisation in the cause of the students of the St. Joseph’s College Higher Secondary School was celebrated recently.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ariyamangalam Zone Chairman, Jerome K. Arockiaraj, paid rich tributes to the services for providing educational opportunities to the suppressed sections by the late Kamaraj.

He appreciated the efforts being taken by ‘Subam’ in coming to the rescue of poor students.

He distributed free uniforms to 70 pupils belonging to the economically weaker section on the occasion.

The Secretary of the college, Rev. Fr. A. Joseph, declared open the cycle shelter. The Headmaster of the school and president of ‘Subam,’ Rev. L. Francis Xavier planted a few saplings.

Sports tournaments held

The M.A.M. College of Engineering conducted ‘MAM CE Rolling Trophy Tournaments’ for ball badminton, volleyball and football for the high school (HS) and higher secondary school (HSS) students of Tiruchi district.

Ball badminton and volleyball was conducted for both boys and girls, while football was conducted for boys.

St. Xavier’s HSS, Purathakudi clinched the football title.

The Srirangam Boys HSS and Zamindar HSS, Thuraiyur won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in ball badminton, while Sri Vivekananda Vidyavanam HS, Thiruparaithurai and Amala Girls HSS, Musiri, bagged the boy’s and girls’ crown respectively in volleyball.

The Chief Educational Officer, R. Muthukrishnan gave away the prizes in the presence of the chairman of M.A.M. College of Engineering, M. Abdul Majedu.

Good performance

T.K.S. Abishek and T.K.S. Arjun, students of Santa Maria Matriculation School, Tiruchi, are now FIDE-rated players, thanks to some good performances by the duo. Abishek, a class VII student and his younger brother, Arjun, a class VI student were earlier trained by T. Sundarrajan and N. Venkatraman. They presently practice under A.P. Chandrasekar.

The Principal of the school, Arockiyaraj commended the efforts of the youngsters.
