With reference to the article on Dr. Allaudeen under the heading ‘For the love of mankind’ (Personality of the week, July 9), I wish to state that my wife was a beneficiary of his altruism. He made frantic efforts to get seven blood donors for my wife (‘O’ Negative group) when she underwent an operation in the knees at Ganga Hospital. Such humanitarian gestures should be emulated by all. V. Ramasamy, Kovaipudur. Garbage problem
The garbage heap in Vasantham Nagar residential colony is creating a lot of hardships to the residents in the colony. Flies and mosquitoes swarm our houses and the threat of contagious diseases looms large. Large vultures and eagles drop dead body parts in the area. Smoke from the burning garbage gives us headache and causes vomiting. We request the authorities concerned to take immediate action before an epidemic spreads in the neighbourhood of Kuniamuthur. Thangaraj, Kuniamuthur. Foot bridge
Construction of the foot overbridge near PSG College of Technology, across the busy Avanashi Road, is a boon. Traffic congestion at this point used to be a regular feature, causing great inconvenience to the numerous users of this vital road in Coimbatore. All those who put in their best efforts to ensure completion of this important project within a very short span of time, deserve praise. It is common knowledge that there is an identical problem of severe traffic congestion on Mettupalayam Road, near Avanashilingam Deemed University, where thousands of students study. Erection of a foot overbridge, similar to the one constructed near PSG Tech, will ensure unhindered vehicular traffic on this important stretch of Mettupalayam Road. K.D. Viswanaathan, Thadagam Road. Airport expansion
When the country is moving at a fast pace, Coimbatore is not able to progress owing to silly reasons. Take the case of Coimbatore airport. The airport’s expansion has been facing problems for sometime now. If the airport is not expanded, there cannot be adequate air service in the sector. Coimbatore and Tirupur are big foreign exchange earners, but we do not have direct flights from Coimbatore. Many foreign airlines are ready to operate services to different parts of the country, except Coimbatore, apparently because the airport is not developed and expanded. It is all time all problems relating to the Coimbatore airport expansion were sorted out and the airport expansion work was taken up without delay. Otherwise Coimbatore will be deleted from the international airport map. T.V. Kalyanakrishnan, Ramnagar. Readers can mail to cbereaders@thehindu.co.in with phone and address
