ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Monday that “any out of the box solutions” reflecting Kashmiri aspirations had the potential to turn not just the Line of Control (LoC) but the whole of Kashmir into a zone of peace. Reacting to statements by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Jammu about a “united states of Kashmir” and making the LoC a zone of peace, spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said at a regular briefing that Pakistan had made several proposals for greater interaction between Kashmiris on both sides of the divide. “The President [of Pakistan] has already outlined certain ideas and emphasised that the settlement should be acceptable to Pakistan, India, and most importantly, to the people of Kashmir.” Ms. Aslam also reiterated Pakistan’s demand that the dialogue-process focus on making progress “on issues that have caused tensions and conflicts” between the two countries. "The Indian Prime minister has acknowledged that the two sides are seriously discussing the Kashmir issue," she said.
