“Taliban behind attack”

Atul Aneja

DUBAI: Iran has accused the Taliban of attacking its consulate in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar. “After car bombing of the consulate general, it is the second terrorist attack of the group on Iranian representative offices in Afghanistan,” an Iranian Foreign Ministry official said. The official observed that contrary to accusations in the British and the American media about Iran’s alleged support to the Taliban in Afghanistan, the bombing showed the group’s animosity towards Iran. The Taliban has a history of targeting Iranian diplomatic interests in Afghanistan in the past. The Taliban had raided the Iranian consulate in Mazar-e-Sharif on August 8, 1998.
