Coimbatore: Principal District Sessions Judge G. Chockalingam on Monday distributed 43 laptops to judicial officers in the district and exhorted the officers to use them for ensuring speedy disposal of cases. The laptops would help the judicial officers in preparation of judgments. At present, the presiding officers used to dictate judgment to stenographers, who would typewrite it. After correcting it, the judgments would be pronounced and certified photo copies would be distributed to the accused. Judicial works
The laptops would help in reducing the time taken for these works. The use of laptops in day-to-day judicial works such as recording of the statements and points during the examination and cross examination would enhance the functioning speed of the judiciary, officers said. Legal aspects
In addition, the officers could make use of the laptops for storing the legal aspects rather than searching from huge law books. Laptops were given to all officers in the sessions as well sub-ordinate judiciary i.e., from the sessions court to the magistrate courts. Turning point
S. Baskaran, First Additional District Judge and G. Jayachandran, II Additional District Judge told the judicial officers that introduction of computers was a turning point in the judiciary. The judicial process was being made high-tech. The judicial officers would be given training for a month in operating the computers. Connectivity
Efforts were on to get broadband connectivity for these laptops so as to enable the officers to access the judgments delivered by the higher courts and to refer case laws with ease.
