Number plate drive faulted

The proposed joint drive of Transport and Traffic Police authorities to check irregular number plates of vehicles came under heavy criticism from the Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee. In a press release on Sunday, the committee described the decision as an attempt by the Government to fill empty coffers. Demanding that the drive be stopped immediately and three months’ time be given to correct the number plates, committee convenor Mohd. Amanullah Khan threatened to launch an agitation if their demand is not met. However, a decision would be taken after due representation to Government on Monday.
