‘Over 23 lakh pumpsets in State getting concessional power’
|
SRIKAKULAM: Since sufficient coal is available in the State, the Government has decided to set up thermal power plants.
Many are under pipeline and some will start generation of power by July next when the power position will improve considerably, according to Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.
Addressing a series of meetings at a number of places in Sompeta and others areas where he inaugurated or laid foundation stones for welfare schemes on Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Prasada Rao asserted that the uninterrupted power supply for seven hours to farmers in the last three years was proof that the Government led by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was able to deliver goods.
Not only there had been no increase in power tariff in the last three years, but concessions had been granted to some sections.
As many as 23 lakh pumpsets in the State had been getting concessional power, Mr. Prasada Rao pointed out.
Sanctions for gas-based power projects had been accorded even though there was no enough gas at hand, the Minister said adding that these decisions were taken with extraneous considerations.
He referred to the installation of sub-station at Korlam village in Sompeta mandal and said this would solve the low-voltage problem in 18 villages.
College inaugurated
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated junior college buildings in Mandasa and laid foundation for Rs.2.27-crore road from the NH-5 to Bathupuram in Srikakulam district.
