Holiday for offices, banks and educational institutions today

BANGALORE: The State Government has declared holiday on Monday under the Negotiable Instruments Act following the death of the former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar.

A senior official of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms told The Hindu that the holiday would be applicable to all educational institutions, whether they were following the State syllabus or not, government depar tments and banks.

However, the Visvesvaraya Technological University will go ahead with its ongoing semester examination as scheduled on Monday.

Cabinet meet

Meanwhile, a special Cabinet meeting would be convened at 10.30 a.m. on Monday to mourn the death of the former Prime Minister, according to Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy. The legislature, which is in session, too would mourn the death of Chandra Shekhar, he added.

Several leaders have condoled the death of the former Prime Minister.
