Standoff: Irate followers of Khairatabad MLA P.Janardhan Reddy being pushed back by the police in Hyderabad on Sunday.
HYDERABAD: Supporters of Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhan Reddy and those of Y.S. Ravindranath Reddy, brother of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, almost clashed, following a ruckus over denial of passage to a car on a narrow road in Jubilee Hills. Late on Sunday afternoon, the Chief Minister’s brother and his son were passing through Road No. 10, where he lives and also where Mr. Janardhan Reddy had come to attend his daughter’s ‘house-warming’ ceremony. The MLA’s son, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, reportedly got irked over Y.S. Sumadhur Reddy honking away, leading to an argument that turned violent. Mr. Ravindranath Reddy alleged that both himself and his son were beaten up by Mr. Janardhan Reddy’s men, with the MLA’s son Vishnuvardhan Reddy in the thick of the action. Following a complaint from Mr. Ravindranath Reddy, police brought the MLA’s son to the police station. He was accompanied by his father, mother and aunt. Slogan shouting
Even as the MLA and others were coming to the station, hordes of his supporters reached the spot and raised slogans against the Chief Minister. A dozen senior officers also reached the spot with enough men. In their bid to clear the street of people, police lathicharged them, injuring one person. Senior Congress leader and MLA M. Sashidhar Reddy also visited Mr. Janardhan Reddy at the police station. The high drama around Jubilee Hills police station appeared to come to an end slightly after midnight with police telling Mr. Janardhan Reddy that he could leave. When contacted, City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said, “The MLA, his wife and sister were not involved and were not arrested at all. They came to the station on their own. As of now, we have three of the six names involved in the incident.”
