“A threat to sovereignty”

CHENNAI: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa’s recent order to stop release of Cauvery water from the Krishnaraja Sagar dam to Tamil Nadu is a threat to the sovereignty of the country, former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has said in a statement.

The farmers of Tamil Nadu have had to fight at every stage to get Cauvery water, she said and accused the DMK of doing little to bring water to the State. She said Chief Minister Karunanidhi was content with writing letters to the Prime Minister on the issue.

The right path was to take up the Cauvery water problem on a war footing, meet the Karnataka Chief Minister and impress upon him the need for water to safeguard the interests of the Tamil Nadu farmers. — Special Correspondent
