PDS rice, kerosene seized

CHENNAI: A large quantity of rice and kerosene, meant to be sold through the public distribution system, was seized, and vehicles involved in smuggling of these essential commodities were impounded, by the authorities last week.

An official release said the Civil Supplies-CID police seized PDS rice worth over Rs. 17 lakh and kerosene worth Rs. 37,000 between June 30 and July 6.

Besides arresting the persons involved in the smuggling, authorities impounded eight lorries, four vans, two autorickshaws and four two-wheelers. — Special Correspondent
