TANKER Foundation conducts awareness programme on kidney diseases

200 police personnel attend the talk

Leaflets on kidney problems distributed

CHENNAI: Holistic health camps will be conducted regularly for police personnel and their families, Additional Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid said on Saturday.

He was addressing an awareness programme on ‘How to prevent kidney failure’ and ‘How to overcome kidney diseases,’ organised by the Tamil Nadu Kidney Research (TANKER) Foundation at Pudupet.

It was the 50th such programme organised by the Foundation, which recently completed 14 years of service. Managing trustee Latha A. Kumaraswami said the idea was to help police personnel, who led a stressful life.

Around 200 police personnel attended a talk by Rajalakshmi Ravi, advisory member of the Foundation. Leaflets on kidney problems were distributed.

Ms. Kumaraswami said a main cause of kidney failure was diabetes, a condition Indians were genetically predisposed to. People with blood pressure should also be tested.

The Foundation offers dialysis at subsided rates for economically backward patients and gives one-time monetary contribution to needy patients.

Founder trustee Georgi Abraham said food, clean water, clean air, shelter and clothing were vital for good health.
