NALGONDA: Four schoolchildren, aged between 8 and 13 years, were killed in a ghastly accident on the National Highway no.9 at Aakupamula of Munagal mandal in Nalgonda district on Saturday.

Kalakonda Sunny (8) and Mokka Gopikrishna (8) of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir and Basham Nagaraju (13) of Betania School died on the spot when a Vijayawada-bound lorry hit their parked autorickshaw. Another student Kooratla Sai Kalyan (10) died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Narketpally.

Six more students, who sustained injuries, were admitted in hospitals at Kodad and Narketpally, where their condition was said to be out of danger, according to Inspector Venkata Swamy. The autorickshaw was on its way to Ratnavaram village of Nadigudem mandal from Kodad.

“Sunny’s father Babu was driving the autorickshaw. Babu escaped because he had stopped the vehicle by the roadside to attend to nature’s call,” the police official said.
